BEACHES

Marina Beach – Stretches for over 12 kms and the wide sandy foreshore makes for a splendid place to walk. The promenade is spread with elegant flower beds along the lanes to make for a very lovely place to spend an evening with family and have a picnic.

Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar – This stretch of the beach      is spread along the coast down south of the Marina Beach. It is one of those beaches that is a regular haunt for the youth of Chennai. It is comparatively quieter and has a long stretch of restaurants and eat-outs that makes it comfortable for people to spend a quiet evening on the beach, have dinner and get back home. Other places to visit near the beach are the Velankanni Church and the Ashtalakshmi temple.

Covelong Beach – It is one of the beaches that come up along the way to Mahabalipuram. It was once a small fishing village, which has today been converted into a luxury beach resort. The Taj group runs a Fisherman Cove’s Resort with rooms in the main building and cottages in the sandy beach. It is a must visit for those who come along for enjoying the beach and have a weekend get away at the same time. 

Breezy Beach, Thiruvanmayur – This is the one beach that is quieter and cosier place than any beach in Chennai. It is a periodic tourist attraction and given that the area around the beach is occupied by IT/ITES professionals, it is a regular spot for IT professional to hang out. It is a great place to unwind in the peace and quiet after a long day at work.

VGP Golden Beach – It is a part of the VGP Universal Kingdom amusement park, situated about 30 kms from Chennai, it also includes a beach resort. Comfortable accommodation and a picturesque view of the Arabian Sea is one of the additional attractions of the Golden Beach resort, situated on the VGP Golden Beach.

Pebble Beach – It is one of those beaches that are eco friendly and a regular haunt for the nature lovers. It is a serene beach with a cool breeze and clean sand and makes for a great place for a nice quiet and cosy evening. What is more interesting is the drive all the way to this beach, along the Del Monte forest, which has some of the most splendid and scenic, sights ever. It makes for a wonderful long drive option as the drive stretches over 17 miles and scenery around is amazing.
